We know that X79 is not such a demon when it comes memory bandwidth and yet again we find some very close results when compared against the competition. Overall system performance is measured by the PCMark Suite.

The Lightweight Suite measures the capabilities of entry level systems and mobility platforms unable to run the full PCMark suite. Common use performance is measured by the Entertainment, Creativity and Productivity scenario suites.

Component performance is measured by the Computation and Storage hardware suites. The Storage suite is ideal for testing SSDs and external hard drives in addition to the system drive. Taking overall system performance into account, we can see that the X79 Fatal1ty Champion is one of the stronger boards that we have seen to date at stock speeds.

Overclocking the board did see a slight gain in performance but again this was still slower that others that were running at stock. This allows us to show the fluctuation between how much power draw the system takes at idle and at load. By monitoring the overall usage of the whole system, it gives an easy comparison if you wish to do the same yourself as opposed to buying very expensive individual testing equipment.

Power consumption is something we know X79 in general is not going to win awards for on its own. We did find that the X79 Champion is quite a hungry board especially at full load where it consumed well over W.

Overclocking did see more of a gain in usage at idle with over W recorded and at full load the board topped out at W. Once factor that does stand out a little more is its ease of overclocking and the easy to use BIOS.

With barely any trouble at all we had our chip running at 4. Post Status Checker is a selection of LEDs which give us visual feedback on the status during power on and this board also has its own dedicated audio processor, more on that shortly.

Expansion slots are a key area of difference between Intel mainstream and high end boards with models based on X79 generally having more lanes available for multi-GPU use. In this case we have slots with PCIe 3. Also mixed in with these are two 1x PCIe 2. At the bottom right we find our drive connectors.

At the top right we find our power connectors, dual USB 3. All socket CPUs are supported including the latest iX and it is worth noting that this board also has an onboard debug LED should we run into any issues. It has software based tweaks for control of polling etc.
